The USA stages 11 of the venues, topped by the Final at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey. Cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston are large international airline hubs with deep carrier competition — generally the cheapest US gateways. The majority of arenas are NFL stadiums reconfigured for soccer, holding 60,000 to 82,000 fans.

Plan Ahead

Pre-Trip Checklist

Visa & Entry
A $21 ESTA is required for Visa Waiver Program citizens, applied online at least 72 hours before departure. Citizens outside the Visa Waiver Program need a B1/B2 visa — expect processing to span weeks. Apply early — tournament-period demand will be very high.
Most nationalities can stay up to 180 days without a visa. You receive an FMM tourist permit at the border, or fill it out online before departure. For trips that mix Mexico and US matches, get entry permits for each country individually.
Visa-exempt nationals need an eTA ($7 CAD, applied online). For passports that need a full visa, plan to apply early. Turnaround is generally fast but can lag around major events. The eTA is bound to the passport you applied with and lasts 5 years.
Currency & Costs
USD is the currency. Credit and debit cards are taken pretty much everywhere. Tipping culture is strong: 18-20% in restaurants, around $1-2 per drink at bars. Expect $15-25 for casual-restaurant meals and $8-15 at fast-food spots. Stadium food and drink pricing runs well above street prices.
MXN is the currency. US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, but you'll come out ahead paying in pesos. Customary tipping runs 10-15%. A typical meal at local restaurants is $5-10 — Mexico is the most budget-friendly host. ATMs are widely available.
CAD is the currency. Card payments — contactless included — are accepted everywhere. Tip 15-20% in restaurants. Pricing is roughly on par with the US: $15-25 per meal. Heads-up: Canadian sticker prices don't include tax, so the bill comes in 13-15% higher than the menu.
Weather (June-July)
Expect big differences city-to-city. Southern host cities (Miami 32°C, Houston 35°C, Dallas 36°C) run hot and humid. Out West (LA 25°C, San Francisco 18°C, Seattle 22°C) conditions are mild and dry. The East Coast runs warm and humid: New York 29°C, Philadelphia 30°C, Boston 27°C. For outdoor stadiums: sunscreen, a hat, and stay hydrated.
The wet season begins in June. Mexico City sits at 2,200m, so daytime hovers around 25°C while evenings drop noticeably. Layered clothing and a rain jacket are essential. Temperatures in Guadalajara and Monterrey climb to 30-33°C with more humidity. Expect frequent — but short — afternoon thunderstorms.
The Canadian summer at its finest. Toronto sits around 26°C, with bouts of humidity. In Vancouver, expect 22°C, daylight stretching to 16 hours, and very little rain. Both cities offer comfortable conditions for outdoor events. Light layers are recommended for evening kickoffs.
Practical Info
Type A/B sockets, 120V. English is the main spoken language. Uber and Lyft cover the full host-city list. Most hotels, cafes, and airports provide free WiFi. For mobile data, buy an eSIM or prepaid SIM at the airport. Public transport runs the gamut — strong in New York, weak in Dallas and Houston.
Plugs are Type A/B at 127V (US-compatible). Spanish is the primary language though plenty of English is spoken in tourist districts and near the venues. Uber and DiDi run smoothly in all three host cities. Grab a Telcel or AT&T Mexico SIM at the airport — affordable data and calls.
Plugs are Type A/B at 120V (matching US). English is spoken in Toronto, English/French in Vancouver. Both cities have Uber service. Transit is dependable — Toronto's TTC and Vancouver's SkyTrain both reach the stadiums. Canadian mobile plans run pricey, so an eSIM or prepaid option suits visitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Ukrainian citizens need a US visa for the World Cup?

Yes, a full B1/B2 visitor visa. Ukraine is not in the US Visa Waiver Program, so ESTA is not available to Ukrainian passport holders. The B1/B2 requires an in-person interview at a US consulate — since the Kyiv embassy suspended routine services, Ukrainian applicants are now processed primarily in Warsaw, Vienna, Chișinău, Bucharest and Frankfurt. Wait times vary widely; apply at least 6 months before the tournament. Some recent Ukrainian applicants have waited 3 to 12 months for an appointment. DS-160 online form, USD 185 fee, and proof of intent to return to Ukraine are required.

How do I get to Warsaw for the LOT flight to the USA?

Ground transfer via Poland's eastern border crossings. The most common routes are overnight bus from Kyiv or Lviv to Warsaw (12 to 18 hours depending on border queue), direct train from Lviv to Przemyśl then onward Polish InterCity to Warsaw (8 to 10 hours), or private transfer to Rzeszów (RZE) or Lublin (LUZ) then domestic Polish flight to Warsaw. The Medyka-Przemyśl and Dorohusk-Zosin border crossings are the main rail/bus entry points. Budget 24 hours from a Ukrainian departure point to Warsaw airport check-in to absorb border delays, which can stretch from 2 to 8 hours during peak periods.

What about routing through Chișinău or Budapest instead?

Chișinău (KIV) in Moldova is the closest operational international airport for fans in southern, central and eastern Ukraine. Ground transfer from Odesa or Vinnytsia takes 4 to 8 hours. From Chișinău, flights to North America route through Bucharest (TAROM, LOT), Istanbul (Turkish) or Vienna (Austrian). Budapest (BUD) is a longer ground journey — typically via Uzhhorod and the Romanian border — but Budapest's long-haul connections are broader, with Lufthansa, KLM, Turkish and Qatar serving most US and Canadian host cities. For Western Ukrainian fans near Lviv, Warsaw is usually the most efficient; for Kyiv-area fans, Chișinău and Warsaw are comparable; for Odesa and the south, Chișinău is usually fastest.

When should I book flights for a trip this complex?

Book the long-haul leg (Warsaw, Chișinău or Budapest to North America) 4 to 6 months in advance — December 2025 through early March 2026 is the cleanest window. Ground transfer tickets (bus, train, driver) can be booked much later but secure the long-haul fare first. For group-stage matches (11 to 27 June), lock long-haul fares by February. For knockout rounds through the 19 July final, January is strongly recommended because Polish and Austrian peak summer demand compounds with diaspora travel, pulling cheap seats out of inventory early. Build in flexibility for border delays — do not book connecting flights within 12 hours of your ground-transfer arrival.

Which Ukrainian passport issues should I watch for?

Your international passport (закордонний паспорт) must be valid for the length of your stay in the USA, with at least 6 months remaining preferred, though not strictly required. Check whether your biometric passport chip is readable — some older issuances have been reported as unreadable at US immigration. Carry digital and physical copies of your B1/B2 visa, proof of onward travel out of the USA, and hotel bookings. Ukrainian citizens have reported heightened scrutiny at some US ports of entry regarding intent to return — travel with return flights booked and any work or study ties to Ukraine documented.

Can I use my Ukrainian credit card in the USA?

Mostly yes, with caveats. Ukrainian Visa and Mastercard issued by PrivatBank, monobank, Oschadbank and others generally work at US terminals. However, sanctions-related restrictions and compliance checks have caused intermittent issues for Ukrainian-issued cards in some contexts. Bring backup — multi-currency cards (Wise, Revolut where legally available) are useful. US ATMs may not recognise Ukrainian PINs consistently. Budget for mostly card payments but carry some USD cash for taxi, tips and small transactions. Inform your Ukrainian bank of your travel dates before departure to prevent fraud blocks.

Do I need travel insurance on top of my Ukrainian coverage?

Yes, essential and non-negotiable for US travel. Ukrainian public and private health insurance covers essentially nothing in the USA, and a US emergency admission can cost USD 30,000 to USD 150,000 depending on treatment. Buy a tournament-length travel medical policy with at least USD 500,000 in cover, trip cancellation, baggage and flight delay coverage. Several European insurers (Allianz, AXA Assistance) and Ukrainian operators (UNIQA Ukraine, ARX) sell travel medical policies compatible with Ukrainian passports for EUR 60 to 200. Confirm USA is explicitly covered, confirm air-ambulance repatriation is included, and confirm the policy remains valid despite the ongoing conflict affecting Ukraine.
